High blood pressure is the third biggest risk factor for premature death in England, after smoking and poor diet. A recent government report estimates that around 5.5 million people in England have undiagnosed high blood pressure – that’s over 10% of the population.
If you consider a workforce of 200 people, this means that 50 of them will have high blood pressure, 30 of them will know it, and 20 will be completely unaware – possibly until it’s too late.
Undiagnosed and untreated, high blood pressure puts a strain on your heart and cardiovascular system, which can lead to life-altering and potentially even life-threatening diseases and complications, such as:
Because high blood pressure doesn’t have any symptoms, the only way to know if it’s affecting you is to get your blood pressure checked.
Offering a blood pressure check to staff is a quick and easy way to help them identify their risk and take action if necessary – ultimately leading to a happier, healthier and more productive workplace.
May Measure Month is an international effort to promote regular blood pressure testing and is a fantastic time to promote this cause. If you’re interested in holding blood pressure testing in your workplace, fill out the form and we’ll get back to you with more information.
