You may already have a Wellbeing programme or EAP in place and find yourself asking “what are the benefits of a health check for my staff?” There’s no doubting that there are outlays in terms of cost and staff time, but the rewards of a regular health check service can be huge for both an organisation and its employees.
What is a Health Screening?
Here at New Leaf Health, we offer three levels of Health Screenings in the form of 10, 15 and 20-minute options. At its most basic level, the 10-minute Health Screening offers the following checks:
In just a few minutes employees will have learned three key stats about their health, which can be indicators of serious health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, heart attack, diabetes, aneurysms, and heart failure, just to name a few.
Why are the Results Important?
It’s worth being clear – a health screening isn’t the same as going to the doctors. It is, however, an incredibly accurate screening process using medically validated equipment, performed by professional health practitioners, with results that are measured against National Clinical Guidelines. At least, that’s how we do it here at New Leaf Health.
Let’s say that an employee learns that they have raised blood pressure, for example. Firstly, our practitioner would suggest that they visit their GP for repeat testing to ensure that the figure is consistent over time. Secondly, they would offer tips and lifestyle advice that can be implemented in order to help reduce blood pressure levels, such as controlled diet and regular exercise. Then, hopefully, the employee takes the advice and works towards reducing their blood pressure.
The alternative? Without a Health Screening, the employee is blissfully unaware of any red flags, and of course, won’t be taking any action to combat problems, all the while living with a potentially very serious health condition.
The Benefits to the Workplace
Yes, it’s wonderful that employees can identify any looming health concerns and get them sorted, but how does this benefit your organisation? In simple terms, there are two main benefits – employee health and company culture.
Healthy employees mean less sick days (and the associated costs) and fewer instances of presenteeism (and the resulting loss in productivity). This means that your business saves time and money, and the cost of the Health Screening is covered!
