Address suicide in the workplace

Workplace Suicide First Aid helps staff address an incredibly complex topic. Suicide is often stigmatised and not openly discussed, yet there’s a good chance that we all know someone who’s been affected by it, or has experienced related feelings and thoughts.

This course teaches the theory and practice of suicide intervention skills that can be applied to personal and professional settings.

This course excellently complements the skill set of your Mental Health First Aiders or is great as a standalone training project.

Suicide First Aid Training Course Information

Suicide First Aid is designed to give workplace volunteers the skills and knowledge to address the difficult topic of suicide at work.

Suicide First Aiders will be able to identify someone who may be contemplating suicide, intervene in a safe manner, then get the person to further help.

The course focuses on the stigma around suicide, the causes that can lead to suicidal ideation and behaviour, and the processes required to keep everyone involved safe, utilising appropriate boundaries.

The Workplace Suicide First Aid Course teaches the skills and knowledge needed to identify someone who may be thinking about suicide and competently intervene to help create suicide safety as a first-aid approach.

A Suicide First Aider can be anyone in the workplace who is willing to volunteer some of their working time to this role.

Prior skills aren’t required, but prospective Suicide First Aiders should have a desire to improve the mental wellbeing of their workplace.

This course is also an excellent supplement to an existing Mental Health First Aid qualification, so would be ideal for workplace MHFAiders.

The Suicide First Aid Course has been developed by The National Centre for Suicide Prevention, Education & Training.

Upon completion of this programme, learners are also provided with the option to gain an assured certificate from City & Guilds by completing a written assignment. This is at an additional cost, paid directly to City & Guilds.
